Only 20 minutes away from downtown Savannah, Georgia is Little Tybee Island; a colorful and vibrant beach town! Savannah locals say that Tybee Island is the Georgia Coast’s best kept secret. From crazy antique shops, beach bars, and historical landmarks, Tybee Island is filled with so many things to do and see!

Of course, you can’t go to Tybee Island without grabbing a cone from Sweetie Pie Gelato. Sweetie Pie’s is an ice cream shop inside of a little blue trailer located amongst Seaside Sisters’ beach shops.

We got to sample a few flavors before deciding on salted caramel and strawberry. But they serve more than just gelato, they even have smoothies, milkshakes, and homemade lemonade! Their gelato was so good, one of the best we’ve ever had! It’s no wonder Sweetie Pie’s was featured on The Cooking Channel’s “Beach Bites with Katie Lee”.

Next door there was an antique shop filled with the craziest collections, it was really interesting to walk through!

The next street over we walked around and found other shops, along with a restaurant we stumbled upon called Huc-A-Poos Bites & Booze.

📍1213 U.S. 80, Tybee Island, GA 31328

At first we didn’t pay much attention to Huc-A-Poos, we actually stopped in at first just to use the restroom. This restaurant was filled with vintage signs, neons, and an uncountable amount of dollar bills glued to the walls, it was interesting to say the least! We did hear from several locals, while walking around Savannah, that Huc-A-Poos had “THE BEST PIZZA EVER”! Nikki, being from New York, knows her pizza lol. So we had to try a pie for ourselves!

We ended up going on a Friday night and the place was packed! Good thing we rented a golf cart (more on that later) because we found a small parking space near the bicycle parking. There weren’t any open tables on the patio, but we were able to seat ourselves at a table near the front door. Our server told us that we came on the one night a year that they have a Drag show! We’ve never been to a drag show before! It was so fun, and we could tell that everyone at Huc-A-Poos was having the best time!!

The show was so much fun, and although it was a super busy night, our veggie pizza came out pretty quick and was cooked perfectly. The crust was probably the best part, it was thin and the pizza wasn’t greasy at all! It was definitely one of our favorite pizzas we’ve shared together! It was so big that we had to take some to go, but most of it didn’t make it home because we snacked on it later. It’s that good!🍕😋

tybeeisland.50A big 15-inch pizza for two, breadsticks as an app (they were so big, it was basically a mini pizza) and a Coors light came out to be only $20! If you’re looking for somewhere fun and inexpensive with yummy bites, be sure to check out Huc-A-Poos!

Next time we’re in town, we also want to check out Tybee Island Social Club, a trendy “beach-chic” restaurant. We briefly stopped by but they had a long wait that night so we didn’t get to dine there. It’s super cute as you can tell from the photos above. It seemed like a cozy atmosphere, and they even have live music too!

Another place we heard was great from the locals is The Breakfast Club.

📍1500 Butler Ave, Tybee Island, GA 31328

The Breakfast Club is a world-famous diner that is open daily from 7am-1pm. It’s been open since the early 1980’s and has barely changed since then. Voted “Best Breakfast on Tybee”, it’s so popular, there’s usually a line out the door!

The best way to explore Tybee Island is by renting a golf cart! So we rented a golf cart from Tybee Golf Carts
📍 801 1st St, Tybee Island, GA 31328
☎️ +1 912-226-9676

tybeeisland10

🌟Prices:

4 passenger – $74.99 (1 Day)

6 passenger – $109.99 (1 Day)

8 passenger – $129.99 (1 Day)

Tybee Golf Carts have gas or electric powered carts available, and you can rent a 4, 6, or 8 passengers. Since this is how a lot of people get around on the island, most people usually rent it for multiple days; so they have discounted prices for that as well.

The staff is extremely friendly and laidback. They told us that we could drop off the cart whenever and just leave the keys in the cupholder!

We were given a map of Tybee Island and were told that we were able to explore the entire island but given a set of rules to follow:
– Don’t drive on the main road a.k.a. Highway 80 (We made avoiding highway 80 into a fun game lol, plus it was cool going through the backroads and driving through neighborhoods and streets lined with colorful beach homes!)
– Must wear your seat belt
– Return the cart with the gas tank filled the same amount as when you got it
– Have fun!

A cool perk of being on the golf carts is that we didn’t have to worry about paying for any parking! Each golf cart has a sticker on the windshield which acts as a parking pass so you can park in any legal parking spot on the island. Any spot a car can park, you can park!

While driving the golf carts, we made our way to the beach and then went for a cruise around the entire island for a few hours to try to see all of Tybee! Above are some cool beach houses we saw while we were cruising around. We will 100% be renting golf carts again next time we’re in Tybee Island! It was so much fun!!

Another spot that we had to visit several times was the Tybee Island Pier and beachfront. Does anyone remember the scenes of this beach from The Last Song with Miley Cyrus?

📍16th St, Tybee Island, GA 31328

We entered right on Tybrisa Street, where there is a row of beach shops and restaurants that lead to the pier and the Atlantic ocean. The pier and pavilion is a great spot for fishing, people watching, and of course watching the sunset! 🌅

We swam and relaxed on the beach, and then headed to the Pier to watch the sunset over the water.

The sky was an amazing mix of blues and pinks, a true cotton candy sky! 😍💕

One of the best parts of our experience on Tybee Island was meeting the friendly people that live there. We couldn’t believe how extremely friendly everyone was! Everyone’s super chill and “Living On Tybee Time”. A phrase used by the laidback locals meaning island time, as if they don’t have a care in the world. 🏝

tybeeisland3

Although we’re not from there, we wanted to do as the locals do and “Live on Tybee Time”! So we made sure to take in the views of the shoreline, try their tv worthy treats, and something we rarely do when we travel, relax and enjoy!🏝✌🏼

We only got to explore Tybee for a couple of days and fell in love with this little island on the Georgia Coast. Visiting here made us appreciate living in Georgia, because not only do we have the beaches and islands, but the mountain tops in the north. In the words of Miley Cyrus, we get the best of both worlds!
